Photography Magnet

The photography program emphasizes the photograph as an art form. This comprehensive course includes the study of visual perception through the use of the camera, the technical aspects of shooting, lighting, printing (digital and darkroom), and photo presentation. The curriculum also includes a study of the history of photography.
ALL STUDENTS must sign up for auditions via the Portal and Magnet application process. Audition dates and times will be available trough this method.

About the Photography Audition

The Photography Audition will consist of:

1

Evaluating samples of original photographs and other artwork accomplished by the student either at home or in school.

2

Administering a test to determine the student’s aptitude in processing technical information and in solving problems visually.

3

Holding an interview to help determine the student’s level of discipline, interest and suitability for the program.

4

All students are to bring a photo portfolio to the audition, consisting of the TEN best examples of their photographs and additionally any other artwork they may want to show.

5

Provide a report card or current grades that include their academic & conduct grades. MDCPS students: this step is not necessary as the grades are provided by the application system with the application submission.

In compiling your portfolio, you should carefully prepare and select  ten original photographs and art work which show your ability and interest.
If you have any examples of any film you have processed or printed, you may include those as well.
Photo prints can be any size. However,  8x10 or 8x12 is recommended. It is not necessary to have a professional portfolio.
Photos may be placed in a folder or envelope and brought in. Sheet protectors in a folder also work.
